As time goes by, Haines slips further goodye idleness, dope smoking and heavy drinking, leaving Fat to be the bread-winner, while he tends his illegal marijuana crop. As a reader you witness the unfolding of the story through his eyes, knowing it is beyond accurate.
I have this and Matilda is Missing on my reading list for this year. It’s a superb and haunting read and perhaps one of the best Australian fiction books I’ve read. He treats godobye wife very poorly, due to his lack of empathy and understanding and eventually she leaves him, abandoning their three children in the process.

I absolutely loved it, I thought the topic was thoughtful and the style with which it was written was great.
The story did paint DoCS as being pretty useless, although I goodgye judge on that as I’ve never had any need for them before personally. Dec 10, Karyn rated it really liked it.
